Noise is a phenomenon that despite our efforts to rationalize it still discomforts us. We came up with theories to integrate it in our catalogue of knowledge: chaos theory, deconstruction, chance, coincidence, stochastic,… But still the actual experience of hearing noise is uneasing. I am exploring noise as an artistic concept because it puts us individually into the position to confront ourselves with something strange and alien. With something, we do not understand (yet?). We to easily shut out everything, that is complex, uneasing, asking for confrontation like noise. We seek order and harmony in a world that is irrational, chaotic and lacking sense. In which our feelings and logical reasons are in contrast to the economic world, our concrete needs are in dispute with the abstract demands of economic, social and political realities. Noise is a reminder of a fundamental discrepancy between individual needs, emotions and the world we created. It is a rebellion against a simplistic worldview and a warning that we have to explore and communicate more, to meet in an existential way, to actually generate a world, in which everybody has the possibility to exist. If we can’t stand the noise, we will not be able to see each other. Because you are and I am noise.

»WE ARE NOISE« was entirely produced with my self programmed noise oscillator called »Noise Op«. It is available as an open source project for the monome norms. You can download it at my GitHub repository:
